Now, last month the subject of my post was my views on a post made by the journalist I’m following, David Brooks. This month I’d like to do something a little different and comment on the journalist himself and how it’s been following his posts.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve really began to enjoy following Mr. Brooks writing. Of course, I never disliked his writing, because it’s hard to say he isn’t a very talented author, whether it’s your style or not. But over the time I’ve been following his posts, consciously going and reading every new article he’s written, I’ve gained a new appreciation for the way he writes. To put his writing style into context, Brooks is an Op-Ed journalist who writes about politics and pop-culture events, pretty box standard. And those kinds of articles and commentaries can be quite dull and droll on and on.
But Brooks’ writing isn’t much like that at all. Brooks tends to level with his readers; rather than speaking to them as the authority on his topic, he writes as if he’s having a conversation with the audience. So rather than seeming like a superior figure lecturing a subject into someone’s head, his articles feel like an educated conversation with a friend or acquaintance. That makes it much easier to wrap my head around the articles, because I’m more interested in reading them.
